On May 30, 2014, St. Luke’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, in Garden Grove, California, will sponsor an ecumenist event on Pentecost. The event will include joint prayers with Antiochians and Papists. As is known, the Antiochian Patriarchate has been at the forefront of promoting ecumenism, differing only with the Phanar on issues of preeminence. The Antiochian Patriarchate has for nearly two decades concluded a formal communion arrangement with groups such as the Syro-Jacobites. Far from dying, ecumenism seems to be experience a much greater and stronger re-birth. In fact, only this year a delegation representing the State New Calendar Church of Greece met with Pope Francis calling for a ‘re-launch’ of ecumenism.
