Archbishop Theodore Elected New Metropolitan of ROAC

(rpac.ru) Archbishop Theodore was elected to Primate of the Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church (ROAC) at a meeting of the Council of Bishops, held on January 23 (NS) at the Synod House of ROAC in Suzdal. In accordance with the Charter of ROAC, Archbishop Theodore, as senior hierarch of the Church by consecration, took over as chairman of the Synod of Bishops ROAC a few days earlier.

Simultaneously, the Council of Bishops appointed Archbishop Theodore, due to the vacancy created after the death of Metropolitan Valentine of Suzdal, with the title “Suzdal and Vladimir.” Archbishop Theodore will be enthroned in the rank of Metropolitan, which has traditionally been the first hierarch of ROAC, after Bright Week.

Due to the vacancy that has been caused as a result of the movement of Archbishop Theodore of the North Caucasus diocese, the Synod appointed Bishop Mark with the title “Armavir and the North Caucasus.” Bishop Irinarch of Tula and Bryansk was appointed administrator of the Synod of Bishops of the ROAC (Archbishop Theodore previously held this position).

On the afternoon of January 23 in the Diocesan House on the Basil Street, the XVI extraordinary congress of the clergy, monastics and laity of the Suzdal diocese took place, addressed by the newly elected First Hierarch, other bishops and clergy. The Congress sent a special message to the flock of the Russian Church.
