Ecumenism

Read: six months.

(Interfax) – A meeting between the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and the Pope is still on the agenda, but it should be preceded by the settlement of disagreements between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church, said Bishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the new head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations.

“Nobody has removed the subject of a meeting between the Pope and the Patriarch of Moscow from the agenda, and the commemorable Holy Patriarch Alexy II said repeatedly that such a meeting would take place, but it would take place only when it is well prepared,” Bishop Hilarion said in the National Interest TV program on Rossiya television channel.

The Russian Patriarch and the Pontiff could meet “when both sides feel that this meeting could make some breakthrough in mutual relations” between the two Churches, he said.
