Moscow Patriarchate

(Moscow, August 14, Interfax) – Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia congratulated Fidel Castro on his 80th birthday which the Cuban leader celebrated last Sunday.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church wished Castro and the Cuban people spiritual and bodily strength, prosperity and new achievements.

‘Your life has been inseparably linked with the destiny of your Motherland. You have become its leader many years ago and took responsibility before God for ordering Cuban society and the life of people,’ the Patriarch’s letter published in Moscow on Monday says.

Alexy II remarked that Christian spiritual experience testifies that ‘service to God is performed through sincere ministry to the neighbours.’ The Primate wished Castro the strength granted by God so that he could ‘inspire people for solidarity in work and in life by his personal example.’
