True Orthodoxy in Greece

Father Anthony Gavalas, of Holy Protection Church in Astoria, NY, has been named to be elevated to Bishop of New York by the “Matthewite” Synod under Archbishop Nicholas of Athens. Father Anthony’s Presbytera reposed in 2011. Father Anthony is well-known throughout traditional Orthodoxy, and is one of the most well-known and respected clergymen of the Synod outside Greece. According to a report from his son:

“Father announced from the Amvon today that the Holy Synod, under Archbishop Nicholas of Athens & all Greece, has elected him to be Bishop of New York.

The date of his Consecration to the Episcopacy will be 31 May in Greece. His official Enthronement here will be, God willing, 21 October. I will forward you any further details as they become available.

This news has come as quite a shock, especially as we lost my dear Mother only seven months ago. We ask for your loving prayers and support as Father takes on this new yoke.

Father extends his loving regards to you all. We forbid him a Facebook account, so he has asked me to be his proxy on this medium.
I beg you for your continued prayers and support for our dear Father Anthony.”
