(Interfax) The Moscow Patriarchate called Bishop Diomid of Chukotka to repentance , which was decided on Friday to defrock him for libel against Church unity and divisive actions.
“I would appeal to Vladika Diomid with all love and openness to adopt these resolutions and bring repentance, because the loss of [this] dignity means at the same time the loss of soul,” said Metropolitan Kirill, the head of the Department for External Church Relations on Friday at a briefing after the conclusion of the Bishops’ Council in a temple Christ the Savior.
For Bishop Diomid, according to Bishop Kirill, “it is important to take love he has shown to the Council and the openness that he has demonstrated– and come to repentance.”
Otherwise, the decision of the Council to remove Bishop Diomid from the episcopal dignity will be taken into effect.
Managing the affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsky said during the briefing that the Bishop Diomidu is being given time for repentance before the next session of the Holy Synod. In this case, the Synod will make a judgement on the future ministry of the Bishop of Chukotka.
The briefing was also noted that the Bishops’ Council in this case acted as the supreme body of the ecclesiastical authority in the Russian Orthodox Church. (Another bootleg translation from Google and NFTU)
