May 22 at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill arrives in Moscow Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew Ι. He was accompanied by the delegation of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the metropolitan Austrian Michael Miriofitskogo and Peristasiyskogo Irenaeus, Emmanuel, Secretary General of the Holy Synod of Archimandrite Elpidofora, Archimandrite Bessarion, Archdeacon of Maxim and a few lay people. Stay distinguished guests will continue until May 31. The program is scheduled to visit Moscow, the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Holy-Transfiguration Valaam Monastery and St. Petersburg.
May 23, the day of the Holy Trinity, the two patriarchs will be Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra.
May 24, the day of the Holy Spirit and the Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Slavic teachers, the two patriarchs will be Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. This day marked namesday Patriarch Cyril. After a festive worship Patriarch will attend the opening ceremony of the Day of Slavonic literature and culture. In the evening the distinguished guests invited to a concert at the State Kremlin Palace followed by a reception on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation.
May 25 His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew’s entourage will arrive in Moscow Kremlin to worship shrines Kremlin cathedrals. In the afternoon, His Holiness Patriarch Cyril to take the high delegation of the Church of Constantinople in his residence in Peredelkino.
May 26 held a meeting of His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew with Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, as well as with professors and students of post-graduate general church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The distinguished guests worship shrines of Moscow churches and monasteries and visit St. Demetrius school nurses. In the evening the delegation of the Patriarchate of Constantinople will Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Greece in Russia M. Spinellis.
Morning of May 27 the delegation will meet with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkey in Russia H. Akıncı. Then His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew’s entourage will depart for Transfiguration Valaam Monastery, where will stay until the morning on May 29. Balaam guests will take the governor of the monastery, Bishop Trinity Pankraty.
May 29 His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew will arrive in Kronstadt, where he familiarized himself with the restoration of the Sea Cathedral. Followed by a tour of the Hermitage, temples and monasteries of St. Petersburg. Evening in honor of the Ecumenical Patriarchate will be a reception at the St. Petersburg archdiocese.
May 30, the Sunday of all Saints, the two patriarchs concelebrated by members of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church will be Divine Liturgy at St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Then His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew examine restored building of the Holy Synod. Evening in honor of the delegation held a reception in the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoe Selo.
Morning of 31 May His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and his delegation will depart for Istanbul.
His Holiness the Archbishop of Constantinople – New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was born in 1940 on the island of Imvros in Turkey. Since 1991, headed by the ancient Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, elevate his story to the first centuries of Christianity. Thank Constantinople department connected with the names of the great teachers of the Church of St. Gregory the Theologian, John Chrysostom, and many other prominent bishops. After separation of the Western Church in 1054 Primate of the Church of Constantinople became the first of honor among the Heads of Orthodox Churches. Ecumenical Patriarchate of the Orthodox spiritual father and the people of Turkey, northern Greece and some islands, as well as numerous diaspora in various countries.
Earlier, His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew visited the limits of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1993 (Moscow, St. Petersburg), 1997 (Odessa), 2003 (Baku), twice in 2008 (Kiev, Moscow – in connection with the funeral of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II).
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II shortly before his death, visited Constantinople in 2008 to participate in Sinaksise Primates and representatives of the Orthodox autocephalous churches.
In July 2009 the newly elected Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill, paid an official visit of His Holiness the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew. This meeting opened a new page in relations between the two Patriarchates.
The current visit of the Russian Orthodox Church by His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew will further strengthen the brotherly relations between the two Churches, and will serve the unity of Orthodoxy.
