The Bulgarian Alternative Synod, faced with increasing pressure from the state to capitulate, has made a new Bishop with the help of Metropolitan Anghelos of Avlonos, who is in communion with the Milan Synod.

The Bulgarian Alternative Synod currently has five Bishops, one having reposed recently. While the official site from Milan indicates that the Alternative Synod is now referred to as a traditional Orthodox Synod, it is unclear what calendar they are currently following or whether there are plans to return to the original calendar. There is also no indication of their status as related to the Kiev Patriarchate, with whom they were in communion until recently.
