(NFTU) In both Ukraine and America, friendly meetings of Orthodox traditionalists before and during the glorification of St Philaret, Metropolitan of New York, seemed to overshadow the divisions between them.
As reported, members of the Synod of Archbishop Chrysostom of Athens were reported at the proceedings of the RTOC in Odessa, where Bishops of that Synod were present and read congratulatory messages at that meeting. As well, the icon for Metropolitan Philaret was produced by a hieromonk of the TOC of Serbia, which is under the omophor of Archbishop Chrysostom.
Meanwhile, in New York, reports have been confirmed that besides the concelebration during the glorification of the ROCOR-PSCA and the Synod in Resistance, Bishop Stephan (Sabelnik) was present at two sessions of the 5th All-Diaspora Sobor. As well, it has been confirmed that Metropolitan Pavlos of Astoria (of the Synod of Archbishop Chrysosotom) was present at the banquet following the liturgy the weekend of the Glorification. Another Bishop from another traditionalist Synod was present (who remained nameless per his request) who simply came to venerate the icon of the new Saint, having met him during his life.
It has also been confirmed that on Monday, 11/24 (New Style) Bishop Ambrose of Methone and Bishop Klement of Gardikion, then went to visit Metropolitan Pavlos of Astoria at the Cathedral of St Markella for an informal visit.
Still, divisions within the various Churches are real: on December 1, it was reported that the St John of Shanghai Church in San Fransisco had allegedly gone from the omophor of the ROCOR-PSCA to the omophor of the RTOC.
Correction (12/3): the original text stated “it was reported that the St John of Shanghai Church in San Fransisco had suddenly gone from the omophor of the ROCOR-PSCA to the omophor of the RTOC.” However, it appears the initial unconfirmed reports as to whether this was a parish departure or a schism within the parish have made it difficult to confirm exactly who is where, and we have changed the wording.
