We all wish His Eminence a Christian end and that he may confess always the true Orthodox faith. It is sad that the enthronement will receive its final blessing with a Banquet. But that seems the popular way of doing things in our so-called ‘Orthodox’ way of life. What would Christ have done? What would the Apostles have done? What would the holy martyrs and confessors have done? This is the Byzantine way it is not the way of Christ. Good appetite!

I disagree with you. People are going to want to eat after the liturgy. Humans need sustenance. The price of an individual ticket is only about $15 dollars more than what a single person would pay at a restaurant in the area. That is not extravagance.

Christ attended banquets. He also chided Judas for using the line of reasoning you are using. Granted, Judas was stealing the money, but Christ made it clear that it was not wrong to celebrate while in the Master’s presence. Our Church does a lot of charity work, does spread the Word, and does engage in repentant activities. We are also in the joyous Paschal period, and it is not inappropriate to gather together and fellowship. Fellowshiping costs money though: we are in the real, material world. Better to do it together as Christians than to have everyone break up and go to cheap restaurants around the area alone, or in small groups, in my opinion.

I am sorry that my message was misunderstood. Thank you for your reply which validates my observation that most true Christians possess a hypocritical mentality and express their love with such social activities. Your reply is completely secular without any Gospel basis and expresses ignorance of what the Church, the Body of Christ is. I do not belong to or support any old calendar, true orthodox, genuine orthodox nor heretical ecumenical movement CULTS. Learn what it means to me a Christian.
Also for your information the Reservation is not $15.00. It is $45.00 for adults and for a child five-years old $20.00. http://www.hotca.org/throne.

ICYMI: “As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly.” (Proverbs 26:11, Douay).

Continue this judgmental tirade masked as piety and you’ll be banned, sir/madam. Christ is Risen.

Please ban me. I will consider it an honor. You have nothing to offer, but are bothered by the truth. Your mask has come off. ad nauseam.

Your wish is my command.

This is your level of spirituality considering quotes from Holy Scriptures and Orthodox Saints as vomit. How low can you get dear Deacon.

The Desert Fathers speak of two forms of communication. One is of love in truth, the other is of hate. You have chosen the second. Quotes from Holy Scripture and Saints are not vomit.

Misusing them is. I could have just revealed your identity. After all, how many Antiochian deacons are in your city anyway? So let’s drop it.

Is this the remnant of HTM writing? It sure seems like it.

orthodox nor heretical ecumenical movement CULTS. Learn what it means to me a Christian: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” St. James 1.27.
You offend Christians by labeling them with cults and fuel the arguments of atheists. I truly pity you.

Greetings Christian Orthodox…

Tell me… is the air quite thin up there, from where you foist your pronouncements on the unsuspecting? I agree that to walk in the Truth is to serve the poor and suffering, and to leave the world in utter repentance… another scripture, quite similar to the one you’ve used, is found in the Prophet Micah: He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? May God grant us humility, the clothing of both servants and warriors.

Thank you for your pity.

A sinner.

Hypocrites. Christian Atheists. Sectarians. “….Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” Spare me your ‘humility’, your ‘love’, your ‘mercy’. Go in the streets and sit with the homeless children, wash their feet, eat from the food thrown to the dogs. Hypocrites.

The words of SAINT SYMEON THE NEW THEOLOGIAN are especially appropriate for our present day ‘hierarchy’:

They (the bishops) unworthily handle My Body
and seek avidly to dominate the masses…
They are seen to appear as brilliant and pure,
but their souls are worse than mud and dirt,
worse even than any kind of deadly poison,
these evil and perverse men! (Hymn 58)

Seems like an overreaction to a dinner that costs less per plate than the average wedding, don’t you think?

This synod holds soup kitchens and direct relief efforts, ministering to people regardless of their nationality, religion, race, etc. (a few examples in the links below). Concerned about the poor? “Go in the streets and sit with the homeless children, wash their feet, eat from the food thrown to the dogs.” Are you doing this? I don’t think so because you are on your computer all day finding things to criticize.

I do my ‘Christian’ friend and I have the lice to prove it. I can’t refer you to a website to show my charity as others proudly do.

That fact that you are even discussing “showing your charity” affirms your pride. Keep your judgement to yourself. Christ is Risen!

Thank you for your perspective. The Banquet is not intended as a final blessing. It is a modest and dignified reception for all those who travel near and far to witness this historic and significant event. The church basement was the first option, which is unfortunately too small to accommodate the attendance of the enthronement nor can the kitchen manage it. Thus, the next option was to find a facility that could accommodate. The ticket prices are set at cost. The fact is that the enthronement will certainly generate a financial burden. A modest commemorative booklet (Journal) has been created to help offset those costs. And, those proceeds will most likely not cover the expenses. The goal here is to break even or lessen the burden. No one views this as a fund-raising opportunity. If you are interested in the outreach programs for the poor and homeless, I implore you to look into the many programs the Metropolis sponsors. May the Light of His Resurrection find you at peace.

Christ is Risen. Thank you for your comment. Everything: the website, the hotel, the banquet, the formality all seem contrary to the Orthodox ethos and the Gospel message. It is something I would have expected from the Greek Archdiocese of America or the masonic Ahepha or Vatican City, which also have extensive outreach programs, and not from ‘traditional’ Orthodox. People are not programs. They are not numbers. They are not to be used as advertisement: “WE HELP THE POOR!!!!” But the Evil One has blinded even the eyes of Orthodox Christians into believing a lie, into being conformed to this world, until the moment of our death when we realize that we were deceived, that we loved the ‘world’ more than we loved Christ, His Church, the Most Holy Mother of God, the Holy Angels and all the Saints.
The Holy King and Prophet David stated it accurately: “But man, being in honor, understood not; he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is become like unto them. This their way is a stumbling block for them, yet afterwards they will please themselves with their mouth. Like sheep they are laid in Hades; death shall be their shepherd. Psalm 49:13-15 (Septuagint).
Christ is truly Risen in the hearts of those who love Him as He is and not as we would have Him. Read the Holy Scriptures.

Thank you for your Genuine, True, Traditional Orthodox comments and your Christian love. I won’t bother your ‘eternal peace’ and ‘joy’ again. It was enough to understand what you represent. Permit me one more comment: If the hotel provides a doggie bag and you see a homeless person outside, near the garbage, be sure to give him the bag, instead of giving it to your dog. That person could be poor Lazarus of the Gospel or even Christ Himself, the poorest of the poor. Forgive me.
