New Archbishop of Athens of the TOC of Greece (Matthewites)


(Source) Bishop Stephanos of Vresthena was elected Archbishop to replace the newly-reposed Archbishop Nicholas.

After the Holy memorial Divine Liturgy of Archbishop Nicholas was completed at the cathedral, a meeting of the Holy Synod of Bishops was held and the normal commencing votes here held. Bishop Stephen was elected Archbishop of Athens and All Greece of the Genuine Orthodox Church.

The new Archbishop is a theologian, and comes from the fellowship of the Holy Savior Transfiguration Monastery Kronizis Kouvaras Attica. In 1975 he was tonsured a monk by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Andrew (2005) and made Priest in 1985 by the same. Since his ordination, he served operational needs across the Greece, and was elected abbot of the monastery 01/22/1990, Sunday of the Publican and Pharisee in succession of the late Bishop Lazarus of Vresthena.

On May 4, 2012 he was elected Bishop Vresthenis. The consecration took place on the 26th of September 2012 in the Catholicon by the late Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Nikolaos (2013). He was enthroned in the Cathedral Temple of the Holy Trinity in Sparta 14 October 2012. He was elected Archbishop of Athens and All Greece by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the 10/23 November 2013.
