MP-Anglican Joint Services

November 22, 2012 Recently, several members of the MP have become more disconcerted about joint services between MP clergy and Anglican clergy.  One specific instance would be the joint MP-Anglican liturgical services held on September 30th of this year, in St. Petersburg. Archpriest Alexander Diaghilev, pastor of the MP parish of St. Alexander Nevksy held, with the permission of chief MP ecumenist Met. Hilarion (Alfeyev), a joint service with Anglican clergy.  The MP site “Holy Fire” reported on this recently to much dismay.

When Fr. Alexander Diaghilev was questioned, he apparently produced a document by Met. Hilarion confirming he had a blessing for Anglican clergy to serve with him during the Liturgy. Fr. Alexander was some what well-known for being an ecumenical liason to the Anglican Church. However, isn’t this supposed to be in direct contradiction to the promise the MP made to ROCOR and others that all MP clergy and laity were not to pray with non-Orthodox?

Met. Hilarion (Alfeyev), the head of the MP Department of External Church Relations, had blessed the event to take place. Meanwhile, Met. Hilarion had to fly to France to hold a joint-conference with the Phanar and RC clergy.

  1. Athair Ambrois Maonaigh says:

There is absolutely no permission in the directive from Metropolitan Hilarion (DECR) authorising Anglican participation in the Liturgy. If an Anglican minister read the Gospel it was at the intiative of the presiding Russian priest and WITHOUT approval from the Patriarchate.
