Met. Hilarion (Alfeyev), the MP head of its Department of External Church Relations, has continued the Moscow Patriarchate plan for extended ecumenical activities and relations with other heterodox groups. Recently, Met. Hilarion and MP delegates met and held ecumenical discussions with the more liberal Finish Lutheran Church (which accepts abortion and homosexuality).
Also mentioned was the important 2014 ecumenical event between the Finnish Lutherans and the Moscow Patriarchate. The Moscow Patriarchate has consistently insisted, over the past few years, upon a course of full blown ecumenical activity on every front. As reported earlier, the join MP-Anglican services, as well as the visits by the MP clergy to the Vatican (for example, the taking of blessings from the Pope), have demonstrated that whatever conservative minority may exist in the former ( or still?) Soviet structure have failed.
