Updated: Punk Trial Verdict: GUILTY – Two Years
MOSCOW: The punk protesters of the collective “Pussy Riot” have been found guilty of hooliganism, according to RIA Novosti. A crowd of up to a thousand people have begun chanting in anger outside. Opposition leaders such as chess Gary Kasparov, have been arrested.
The protesters’ lawyer, Mark Feygin, tweeted a few minutes before the verdict was read that a conviction was likely. The defense team in general had been hoping for a short sentence, but didn’t seem to expect other than a guilty verdict.
The judge handed down a term of two years imprisonment.
