RusOC: New Diocese and Episcopal Retirement

(ispovednik.org) The RusOC (РосПЦ) under Metropolitan Damascene (Balabanov) held its 2009 Synod of Bishops in the Holy Protection Monastery (Zaporzhka Region) and was attended by three Bishops of the Synod, held under the presidency of Metropolitan Damascene.

Approved by the Synod was the establishment of a diocese of Chisinau and Moldova under the Ukrainian Exarchate currently administered by Archbishop John (Zinoviev). It was also decided by the Synod to choose for its bishop Hieromonk Andrian (Zamlinsky), who was accepted and elevated to the rank of Bishop for the new diocese. (Points 1-3)

Bp Vladimir (Mateev), vicar of the Moscow and Central Russian province, submitted his official request for resignation for health reasons, and the text was reviewed and approved by the Synod, along with gratitude for his service. (Point 4)
