Moscow Patriarchate

It appears that Russia has suspended its bid for a permit to build a Church on the Seine riverbank after the mayor of Paris weighed in a negative opinion on the architecture. According to Reuters, Russia has decided upon “a provisional suspension of its request for a construction permit” on the site.

Russian Prime Minister Medvedev is expected to arrive in Paris next week.

NFTU reported on the odd construction of the Russian Cathedral and cultural center, as well as concerns in France that it could be used as a spying front.

The suspension appears designed to avert the possibility of a diplomatic row with next week’s visit.
