On Sunday, April 28/May 11, 2014, the Sunday of the Paralytic, Metropolitan Demetrius (Kyriakou) was enthroned at the Cathedral of St. Markella by Metropolitan Gerontios of Piraeus, representing the Holy Synod. Numerous bishops participated: Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Attica, Metropolitan Moses of Toronto, Bishop Christodoulos of Theoupolis, Bishop Auxentios of Photike, and Metropolitan Pavlos (the retired Metropolitan of America) for the GOC under Archbishop Kallinikos; Archbishop Andronik of Syracuse and St. Nicholas on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad under Metropolitan Agafangel; and Bishops Iosif of Botoşani and Dionisie of Galaţi represented the Romanian Old Calendar Orthodox Church under Metropolitan Vlasie. There were also 22 priests and 8 deacons concelebrating, and laity from various parishes.
Following the Enthronement was a modest banquet held at the Chian Federation, which was offered to the faithful at cost, and during which the clergy and faithful of our far-flung Eparchy were able to fellowship with one another and enjoy a festive meal. The Romanian Church offered His Eminence an icon of St. Glicherie the Confessor, and the Cathedral of St. Markella presented him with a new staff. Others offered well wishes and gifts of a spiritual nature.
