Milan Synod: Metropolitan of Seraphimo-Gennadites Recieved into Communion

Update (5/30) The website this information was taken from was presented as the official website of Abp Onufrius. This is not the case at all; it was a personal site. (source: onufrie.wordpress.com) Metropolitan Barsanuphius (Sopolov) of the Seraphimo-Gennadites, a Catacomb Church deriving its Apostolic succession directly from St Tikhon, was received into mutual communion with the Synod through Abp Onuphrius. Out of humility, the Metropolitan was received with the rank of Archbishop of Chernovtsy, Herta, and Northern Bukovina.

This is the second reception of a Seraphimo-Gennadite Bishop “out of the Catacombs” and into more public communities in twelve months. One of the Bishops of the Seraphimo-Gennadites, along with another Catacomb Bishop, as reported here, were received into the ROCOR-A last year. This will undoubtedly raise the question of whether the Seraphimo-Gennadites are still functional as a Synod, or whether their Bishops have decided to unite with other traditionalist communities.

The territory of Bukovina is split between Romania and Ukraine.
