Patriarch Alexy and Metropolitan Kirill in top third of October list of leading Russian politicians

Moscow, October 31, Interfax – Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations, have been included in the list of 40 leading Russian politicians according to the monthly rating made by the Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily, published on Tuesday.

The primate of the Russian Orthodox Church occupies the 26th place in the October rating, while the DECR chairman the 34th. Moreover, in the NG experts’ estimation, the Church hierarchs are superior in their influence on public opinion to at least seven federal government departments.

The newspaper notes that Metropolitan Kirill’s rating ‘continues to rise’ thanks, among other things, to the ‘campaign for propagation of the school course on history of Orthodox culture in regions’.
