Update on Chile Earthquake
Updated: See Comments Below from J.B–
Abbess Juliana emailed me earlier today (between services) and from what I can tell she is ok. Her message was brief and I summarized it in a quick note on the main page of the Foundation’s website (http://www.
I emailed her in reply and will post updates on the main page of the website. Amazing to hear that there was no structural damage although I would imagine that some damage must have been sustained that will likely require some financial assistance. Anyone familiar with the Foundation will know that they are not well endowed financially to begin with…
Fr. Alexander Iwaszewicz (ROCOR-A) in Argentina sent the following update on Chile. Still no word on Mother Juliana. Hat tip: R.D
Yesterday I was able to speak to Fr Benjamin for a few minutes, until the call disconnected and I was not able to call him back despite several tries.
Father said that all were well, but that the earthquake was extremely intense and loud. It lasted 2 1/2 minutes; he said it felt like it would never end.
He also said he stood in the doorframe and watched as things fell all around him.
In many Churches in the mountains, as in the cities, analoys, books, lampadas and other items fell, but in the house and the various Churches there was no structural damage; as well, at his niece’s house there was water, but no electricity. Candles are being used for lighting.
He also said this was the worst earthquake ever to hit Chile (from when he lived there).
How terrible!
I have Sirito living there, but he tried to calm me down, explaining that everything was fine. But my daughter-in-law, who is pregnant, told me that they slept the rest of the night and the other day on the porch, poor things!
Sending a hug and may God Bless you!!!
