(NFTU) Metropolitan Athanasios of Larisa, one of the last remaining members of the True Orthodox Church of Greece made before the 1985 schism, has joined the Synod of Archbishop Chrysostomos of Athens, twenty-three years after the split of 1985.

Metropolitan Athanasios of Larisa came from the Synod of Archbishop Maximos of Athens (formerly of Kephalonia) and for a short period was associated with Archbishop Makarios of Athens (of the Synod sometimes called the “Lamian” Synod.)

He was received into the Synod this past week in his rank and with his diocese, the boundaries of the existing local Bishop redrawn to reflect that change.
