Greek Police Plan New Assault on Esphigmenou Monastery
(SOURCE) There has been a great deal of unrest since yesterday in the Monastery of Esphigmenou on the Holy Mountain as ELAS prepares a large-scale eviction operation in the premises of Athos.
The document was submitted to the Monastery by a bailiff and “since then the 118 elders of the Monastery have been on alert”. In fact, according to thestoday.gr, supporters of the Holy Monastery collect food for the monks, in case of emergency.
In the document of the Karyes Police Station – the Greek Police are asking for permission from the Holy Supervision to launch a large-scale operation.
The monks of the Monastery of Esphigmenou since 1972 have held a tough stance against the leadership of Orthodoxy and cut off all ties with the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Elder (Abbot) Methodius – one of those convicted for the extensive fights of 2013 – told ThesToday.gr that “We are ready to defend the monastery to the death, here is our spiritual homeland. We were born here spiritually and here we will die. The only thing the police do is as employees, I don’t misunderstand them. They are obliged to do what they are told. And they are chasing us,” he said.
