ROCOR-A: DIOCESAN CENTER/CONVENT UPDATE 6/30/09
Hat tip to R.D. and A.A. NFTU
Plans are slowly but surely moving ahead to acquire a property in central New York (3.5 hour drive from New York City) that can be utilized as a bishop’s residence (for Archbishop Andronik), women’s monastic community, cemetery, and a site for youth retreats, clergy and choir conferences, as well as future seminary training center for the North American District of the ROCA.Another $18,000 is required to reach our goal of $100,000 towards a downpayment and closing costs. Beyond the downpayment cost we are seeking 20 people to pledge $100/month to cover the mortgage payment. Thus far 12 people are signed up for the monthly pledge.
Obediences of the monastics such as sewing of vestments, candlemaking, and iconography will provide for the running costs of the complex (utilities, food, medical, etc.).Photos depict the present 5 bedroom house (with room for indoor chapel) and some of the property. The separately attached diagram outlines sites for future uses for the property: cemetery; church; guesthouse; bookstore and guest trapeza; and a building with library and classrooms. An apiary, fruit orchard, and vegetable garden will be established at the onset. The la
nd borders a creek so there is a spot for fishing as well as an area for future youth activities.
To those who have already contributed we are most grateful. To those who would like to contribute to the effort to establish a diocesan center and monastic community for the ROCA in North America tax-deductible donations may be sent to:
ROCA Assistance Fund, PO Box 7119, Falls Church, VA 22040.
Checks should be made out to the ROCA Assistance Fund and designated for:
Diocesan Center/St. Nicholas Convent
