Greek Lawmakers Lift Cremation Ban

ATHENS, Greece: Lawmakers have approved new legislation to lift a ban on cremation of the dead. The new legislation is designed to pacify religious minorities in the country who wish to cremate their dead. Cremation is forbidden due to Eastern Orthodox teaching on the human body. At the same time that the law allows cremation in Greece, the law prohibits cremation for Orthodox Christians, who make up the country’s legal majority religion.
